Are you Pinterested?

And I would like to add "and all the time that is wasted perusing these pages."

What is happening to us? 
Many of us, myself included, need a wake up call!!  I spend far too much time checking my email, updating my  facebook status (which often is simply mindless ramblings), reading others ramblings, updating my business facebook page, trying to stay connected through networking sites, and now PINTEREST.

Recently, I found this site called EXAMEN.me, which is an amazing site that is designed to help you meditate on scripture with the goal of life obedience, pray with focus and journal God's activity in your life. 

Well, to me, this is about the coolest thing since paper napkins!  I simply get online, the scripture is right there for me to read, a place to journal, questions to reflect on and answer as I feel led. 

This morning as I got out my computer, intent on spending some "God time", I decided to  do a quick check of my email first.  That led to FB, which led to Pinterest and much to my amazement, all of my time was used up.

As I got ready to shower and prepare for church, it really struck me how much time and energy I waste on 'lesser' things.  Does this help me in any way?  Do I help others by engaging in these activities as much as I do?   What does God think about this?  Does He have a facebook page?  (Actually, someone has created one for Him) 

Why do I care who 'follows' me on Pinterest?  Do I care who follows me?  Where am I leading them? All of this pondering has led me to this conviction~We are being followed.    We are examples to those in our sphere of influence.  Our children, our friends, our co-workers, and yes, even those who do not know us personally.  Maybe especially, those who don't know us personally. 

We live in a facebook world.  That is a fact.  What I post and what you post is what people will form their opinions of you based on.  People will go to links that you post, blogs that are written.  They will follow you to see what you 'like' and where you go. 
Above all of that, God sees and knows too.  Is what I am doing and how I'm spending my precious hours on earth causing Him delight?  Is he pleased that I am making a difference in peoples lives?  Is He disappointed that too much time is spent on 'lesser' things? 

Only you can answer these questions for yourself, but as for me, I'm feeling the sting of conviction.

Will you still see me on Facebook?  Yes, I suppose you will.  But my hope and prayer is that it will be for the purpose of making a difference in the lives of those around me.  As for Pinterest...I might need an intervention.

Lambs and paint

What is going on?  So many people have stopped by our new store(not yet opened) called 'Inspired...A Gathering Place.  It's fun to show them around, share the dream and all of the projects still to come.  What they see are lively colored walls, green and raspberry and purple.  They hear about how 'this is where the coffee bar will be and this is where we hope to have a small kitchen.  This is our someday Secret Garden area and these old chairs are going to be transformed into awesome sittin' chairs! '  I must confess that even as I say these things, I'm not always sure how all of this will happen. 
  One more thing that you need to know is how we have gotten this far and how we will accomplish the rest.  It isn't a nice bank loan or a padded savings account that are doing this.  THIS is a faith walk, from our first conversation with the landlord to where we are currently, trusting that God will bring the rest of our needs to us as we work diligently to make this happen.
  Inspired began just like the name....by inspiration, which I call a "God thing".  Many agree that God works this way, some are sceptical and that's ok.  For me, it was very clear that God had this space in mind for me to use.  Use for what?  To bring women together, to give us a place to share, learn, grow, relax, laugh and encourage one another.
 A friend encouraged me today to share some of my God stories....the way this project is coming together.  It is almost uncanny at times, how when we pray about something specifically, it comes to pass. 
Let me share a quick story about the fabulous colors that are in our store.
A dear friend of mine stopped in the salon one day carrying a cute little stuffed lamb.   She dropped it off and said, 'I saw this, loved the colors and the lamb(Jesus is the lamb of the world) idea is cool.  God told me to buy it for you."   ....ok....what do I do with this wildly colored little fella?  I thanked her, thought, hmmmm...whatever....smiled.   I took the lamb home and set him on my desk.  Ok God, seriously?  What am I supposed to do with this.  Do you really tell people stuff like this?   A few days later I took my little 'friend' to the paint store and put together some paint chips matching the colors of the lamb.  Bright green, raspberry, purple and blue.  Next, I met with another friend who is a designer and she did color placement for the walls.  It is GORGEOUS!!  Would I have ever painted those colors otherwise?? doubtful.  i agonized over what to do with all of those walls.
One of the first comments I hear is about how awesome the wall color is...YAY GOD!
  This is just one short story of many regarding the ways that things and people are coming across our path that I could only dream of.  We have a lot to do yet and many items needed, but I'm having fun just asking God about these things and watching how He is working to bring it to pass.  It just doesn't get much better than this!

Our purpose is to create a space for women to gather, share a cup of coffee, shop in our unique boutique filled with 'inspired' items from local crafts persons/artists. Inspired also offers a 'gathering room' which can be used for everything from your local bridge club meeting to book clubs to events. We will also sponsor various speakers, classes, weight loss groups, and so much more."

Mountain Climbing...My newest venture

I just love to dream!  Possibilites abound in my mind's eye.  Nothing is too big, no idea is too grand, no limits!!
Then I hit reality...
How can I, a very ordinary woman with limited financial resources pull off a dream that to me is as big of a mountain as Mt. Everest!!   I am no mountain climber, or am I?  My knowlege of mountain climbing is extremely limited, but I'm guessing that it isn't the wisest thing to climb alone.  Thus, I too, need partners to journey with me in this venture.  For those of you who are not aware of my business venture, let me give you brief discription of what I know thus far.
 I have learned that when God is in something, He doesn't always reveal the full picture.  He just asks us to join Him in the venture and each day brings another piece to the puzzle.  Some time ago I just felt this nudge, this inspiration, if you will, to design a space where women could meet, share their passions and talents, have a quiet space, gather, laugh, etc. etc.  Nothing defined and certainly no business plan!! Just an idea.
It becomes clearer and clearer as I meet and talk with friends, acquaintances, and others that just 'happen' to land in my path. 
I have a space for this business now and will soon sign a lease for this yet, fully established 'idea' of mine.
If I didn't have total faith in what God is doing through me, for my fabulous female friends, I would NEVER venture down this road.  Remember, I do hair!
Here is glimpse of what I see down the road, still to be clarified more fully(Hurry Up God) Oh yes, timing is everything, right?

is designed by divine inspiration as a place for women to gather, to share a cup of coffee in our cafe, to browse & shop in a cozy boutique, where we feature many items created by local crafters and artists.  We also provide a larger 'gathering' space for meetings, classes, events(both private and sponsored)
Our gathering place is  designed to give you the perfect place for your group to relax, share in a private setting, hold classes, events, etc.  We give you the opportunity to provide your own refreshments or let us take care of the details for you.
As much as possible, everything that we do, sell and offer to make Inspired...a pleasurable experience, comes through local 'inspired' women, entrepenuers, so that you are supporting women who have a true passion for what they do.
We offer a great book shelf, our TAKE ONE, LEAVE ONE shelf, so we can share with one another some great reading opportunites without making a purchase.  When our large gathering place is not in use, you will find a nice little corner for your own personal  time out.  Whether used for reading, praying, meditating, or just being, it is offered at no charge, so you can re-charge.
It is truly my belief that women need a 'sacred' space, where conversation flows freely, creativity can flourish, a sharing of passions can be realized and time stands still.

Now, the only piece missing is YOU!  All of these ideas need women, creative women to fill some of these roles.  I'm asking that you consider this dream and if it 'catches' you, please send me a note via FB and share your thoughts.  I am looking for truly 'inspired' women, who genuinely sense a desire to invest their time and talents in serving and sharing with other women.  You know who you are and in the next months the process of sorting these special women out will be happening.  Again, that is in God's great timing and His plans.  I must say, having Him as CEO sure makes this process exciting and full of surprises!!! The Time is NOW

 My passion is to encourage women to be more, to see themselves through God's eyes, to dream big, to believe in themselves, to see their true beauty and talents, not the beauty that society claims we must have to be successful and loved.
 Much of this passion has been fueled by my work behind the salon chair.  Talking with women on a daily basis and being privy to some of their deepest thoughts has taught me much over the years regarding the true mind and heart of women.  For many years I also served in various ministry capacities, often finding myself around tables with women, sharing our hearts, beliefs, dreams, our fears and failures. 
 Now, as I move into yet another phase of life, I find this passion moving in new directions as well.  So many women that I have encountered are so incredibly gifted and yet have often been frustrated by lack of an outlet for their creativity and talents.  My dream, I believe, is truly inspired directly from God's throne, to create a space where women can gather, express themselves, encourage one another and so much more.
 For months now, I have been dreaming about this space, making notes, praying, processing and brainstorming with a few friends.  The only issues ...what space and considering that finances are tight in this economy, how on earth could I pull it off?
 But, I also know that if God is in a project and gave me the ideas, certainly He has the resources at His disposal to make this happen, right?
 Last month, a space opened up in the little strip mall where I work as a hairdresser. Not only A space, but THE space right next door to the salon.  Hmmmmm, was this a sign?
I inquired with the landlord and not only will I be renting this space, he's creating a VERY SWEET deal to get this idea going!!  Can I get an AMEN??
 So, what is this space about, you ask?
Here's a glimpse with more details to come~

will be a place where women can gather for a cup of coffee/tea/beverage in our cafe
or browse our selection of boutique items, many designed by inspired area craftswomen.
There will also be a 'gathering room' to be used for many purposes.
Just a few ideas:

Bible studies
Private parties and craft events
along with special class offerings from Inspired, including special speakers on topics of interest to women
The whole idea of this space is not to own a business, but to have a business that other women take ownership of, share their ideas, get inspired and inspire one another.

Discouraged?

"Strength! Courage! Don't be timid; don't get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take."


Wow, how good is that? To know that God is with us wherever we go and whatever we do.

As I read this from the first chapter of Joshua, I get excited knowing that God is about to lead Joshua and people of Israel into the Promised Land. How would you like to be heading to your promised land? I know, I would!!


God tells him to have courage, strength, to not be terrified or discouraged. God is going with him, protecting and guiding him in this huge endeavor.


BUT...before we get to these exciting words, let's read what God requires before this can happen-


"Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it."


"THEN YOU WILL BE PROSPEROUS AND SUCCESSFUL"


I don't know about you, but I sure like the success and prosperity part. To have God go before me and with me in my endeavors, cutting down my enemies and those things that stand in my way. But all too often, I desire the goods without desiring God. I want His blessings, His stuff for me, but forget about the first part.


Today, once again, I'm starting anew. Back on track, not turning to the right or left, but listening to God.


Reading His wonderful Book He has provided to give us guidance and wisdom to live the best kind of life.


Yes, I want blessings, but more than that, I want to know that God is pleased with me.


So, today I can be strong, courageous, without timidity or fear, no discouraging thoughts. All because I have a relationship with Someone who has my best interest in mind.

Where are you on this journey? Discouraged, doubtful, afraid or can you say, STRONG! COURAGEOUS!

Take some time, ponder these questions. My prayer is that you find that certainty that God is with you, that you are following Him into your promised land. The good news is, that even if you are uncertain and afraid, He's as close as your prayers. And I'm praying for you too...

Down On Your Luck?

Last week I received a text from my husband asking me to pray for a veteran that he has been working with.
You see, Jim has the job of Veterans Services for the State of Mi.  This particular vet had been seeking employment for many months.  He's an older fellow, lost or sold about anything to keep food on the table.  He was extremely discouraged and sat at Jim's desk often, just looking for a little encouragement.
As time passed, the two struck up a friendship of sorts and Jim had the opportunity to share his faith with this man.  He felt that although Jim's faith was fine, he wasn't so sure it was his 'thing', although he did appreciate Jim's offers of prayer.
Back to the text: 'please pray for my friend John, he's thinking of ending his life. I hope I changed his mind.'
Apparently, Jim had told him to find a quiet place, take a walk on the beach,whatever and give it all up to God.  The man left very broken and Jim felt the same.
Jim came home, very discouraged and we prayed.  It is so hard when someones needs are so real and all you can do is pray.  That sounds wrong, even to me, to say 'all' we can do is pray.  That should be the most powerful thing we can do.  But he has material needs that we can't fill. It can be such a powerless feeling.
Well, we've continued to pray for this man and just the fact that Jim didn't receive a phone call that he was deceased has been considered good news.
So, today, God showed up in a BIG way!!  Jim's phone rang and it was John.  He was brimming with excitement as he told Jim he got a job!!  And a good job!! He was so thrilled and couldn't thank Jim enough for all of his encouragement and sticking with him.
To see my husband with tears of joy running down his face over this man and his good news, once again reminded me that God is in control, He always shows up right on time, and as in John's life, It's often darkest just before the dawn.  Never give up, on God, on yourself or on those around you.  You never when God is going to show up!

Crime fighting

Heres' how it all went down...First, I need to admit I'm not a hero:o(  A young woman came into Yeta's just before I was closing and asked for a shopping bag.  Typically, not a request that we get, unless of course someone has made a purchase.  She appeared to be carrying a jacket or something, and her hands were full, so I figured I'd help her out and close up.  She left and I received a phone call from Gazelle across the street saying that we should be aware of shoplifters downtown.  I hang up, start to walk across the hall to let the gals at Merle Norman know, and there lies a bracelet, tags still on, from yet another store, in the hall.  As my mind realizes that this was probably the shop lifter and I may have just given that little thief a bag for her goods, I race over to tell them and there she is....shopping in the makeup store!!  Fortunately, a salesperson from the store the bracelet had come from was just done working, visiting at Merle's and I got her alone and told her.  We raced back to Yeta's, the other two get the message, detain the thief and we call 911.  Never underestimate women!  Those gals at Merle's not only showed her lipstick and eyeshadows, they tried them on her and even booked her a facial for next week, hoping to get a name and phone number.  (Which they did, but probably fake) I'm assuming she won't keep the appointment either.
Now, I have to tell you that we could have run down to the police station, found a cop, ran back TWICE, in the time it took to finally see one of Holland's finest on the scene.
Before an officer ever arrived the girl left and continued walking down 8th Street.  We attempted to watch and follow at a distance and then it happened.  Apparently she had stolen a dress from a store about 5 down from us.  Apparently she also wasn't so smart, because she had changed into this dress and then paraded right past the store she stole it from....HELLO!!   Bless the owners heart, she went outside, very diplomatically and asked for payment for the dress.  Of course, the thief has no money, but says she is willing to take it off and give it back.  They get her into the store and FINALLY, an officer arrives.  We are standing outside our stores, watching with baited breath, and then running down to the scene of the crime.  Here is what we found when we entered the store.  The owner screaming that the policeman was getting the crap beat out of him, another officer arriving and pouncing on this girl, as she was screaming(and I mean screaming, kicking, cussing) at them.  It took two of them to hold down this chick, who weighed no more thatn 110 lbs.  She was one lean, mean fighting machine.  They actually threatened her with a tazer to get her to shut up. I think I would have yanked on her hair, slapped her face and told her to knock it off, but then I'd go to jail too.  I sure wanted to though!!! She was crazy!!It seems that she got some good kicks to the head of the first officer before his back up arrived.  She had some mean looking boots on, I noticed them earlier(actually I was coveting them) Later found out they were brand new and stolen too!!
Finally, she was removed from the scene and carted off.  As the officer went through her purse(which was huge) he found items from more than 5 stores.  The bracelets and bangles she wore were identified as coming from a boutique, but the tags were gone, so went the proof.  It was an exciting night and I'll bet that officer will have one dozey of a headache.  He may have an ache in his pride too.
So, you see, all I did was find a bracelet, put two and two together, got my crime fighting sisters with me and we had the time of our lives. 
And the only thing she got from Yeta's was the bag!

I NEED A VACATION!

I am tired, worn out, weary, need a vacation, done, shot, over it, tired...
Ever feel like that?  Ever NOT feel like that?
Being worn out sometimes becomes a way of life for me.  Racing from this meeting to one job, to my other job, home, dinner, running errands, on and on and on.  It creates stress just typing it out!!
How do we escape that kind of stress?
I guess the simple answer is...Calgon, take me away!!!!!!!
Honestly, if it were that simple, we'd all be soaking in the tub, a lot!! But who has time?
The best way I know to find some relief from all of that craziness is to just schedule one more thing into my planner.  Yes, one more thing. 
When my life is just going too fast and I can't keep up with myself, I sit down, look at the calendar and plan a date with God.  Now, He gets a snippet of my time each day already. Just enough to take my list of needs, wants, and have to haves.  He listens to my thank-yous and all too often, token praise.
But honestly, this isn't always the quality time He desires and I desperately need.
So, when I find myself feeling overwhelmed, like I do today, it's time to look at the calendar and schedule, yes, schedule a date with my Daddy.
Let's see, next week Wednesday is open!!  After working 6 days a week for quite awhile now, I have a Wednesday free!!! 
Dear Father, Would you be interested in hanging out with me next Wed.?  I mean, spend a few hours together, maybe take a walk and talk to me?  You're in my planner and I promise I won't forget.
Thank You for peeling me off the ceiling and giving me some of Your time.  I look forward to it with great anticipation and know that I'll be more focused, energized and ready to serve again after spending time with You.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?

I have been challenged recently regarding my faith walk.  Who is challenging me?  No one in particular, just those little nudges on the inside.  I suspect it's the Holy Spirit, as I have asked Him to show up in a loud way and let me know what needs to change. 
Too often, I allow myself to slip into a comfortable place of just living a good life, going to church, listening the 'right' music, giving to those in need, and just attempting to be a 'nice' person.
You might think, "Oh, come on Diane, what's wrong with that?"  I suppose nothing in one sense.  But the question I ask myself is, 'is that really what I'm here for?'
Suppose God has more for me to do and be.  Suppose I'm not paying attention.  How many hurting people am I walking past each day that I could have spoken an encouraging word into their lives?
What if I miss the main reason that God put me on earth and just live out my days comfortably?   I'll still be in heaven, but I think of the people who might not be, because I missed an opportunity to share my faith with them.
Some of you taking the time to read this will think that I just need to lighten up, not be so hard on myself, live life and enjoy.  Some of you may think I'm crazy to even be concerned about what God thinks, as if He even exists.
For others, you will consider my words and also wonder, What am I missing?  Is life more than just being a good person? Even more than just being a 'good' Christian?

I know what the answer is for me: Keep asking, keep watching, seize opportunities to be Jesus to someone in need and above all, be attentive to the nudges that only come from God.

"Make sure you don't things for granted and go slack in working for the common good: share what you have with others. God takes particular pleasure in acts of worship-a different kind of sacrifice-that take place in kitchen and workplace and on the streets." Hebrews 13:16 Message Bible

DIET SECRET

Today we attended an Open House for my daughters sister-in-law, who recently graduated from college.  The food was excellent, the company was delightful and the dessert was cupcakes iced in red and blue.
The first young lady to greet me as we approached the group gathered in the yard, had a lovely smile with bright red teeth and lips.  Yup, she had just finished a cupcake.  Next, I watched as a woman I do not know bite into a blue iced cupcake.  That was even worse.  Teeth, gums, lips...all blue.  The best laugh of all was when my mother and her husband, oblivious to all of the staining, enjoyed their blue cupcakes.  My mom especially was just covered with blue icing.  Not only her mouth, but a smear on her cheek made her look like she was playing Indians and got carried away with her war paint.  We all laughed and her dear husband gently cleaned her face for her. 
Somehow I wish that all food that was not so good for me, would stain my mouth so I wouldn't eat it and risk the embarrassment.  It would sure make it easier to say no to the wrong food choices, wouldn't it?
Along the same line of thinking, our pastor had a message this morning on the tongue.  You know, how such a small body part has so much control?  He asked us to examine our words. What if our mouths were stained each time we spoke unkind words?  Would we be more careful about what we said?
I suspect we would.
From the Message-James 3:7-10 "This is scary:You can tame a tiger, but you can't tame a tongue-it's never been done.  The tongue runs wild, a wanton killer.  With our tongues we bless God our Father; with the same tongues we curse the very men and women he made in his image.  Curses and blessings out of the same mouth!"
Our mouths can get us into all kinds of trouble.  Not just what we eat, but what we say as well.
I hope that you, like me, will think twice before overindulging in goodies.  But even more, I hope that you will think twice before unkind words are allowed to leave your lips. 
Remember the icing stain?  Unkind words and lies, gossip or back-biting, all leave a stain too. Only this is the stain of sin.  Although it may not be as obvious as the stained teeth and lips I saw today, God sees the stain very clearly and only He can wash it away.
My prayer for you is that you will choose to let Him do just that.

STRESSED? THIS IS A MUST-READ!!

So much STRESS!! How are we supposed to handle this thing called life when it seems so out of our control?
If the only stress we had was being too busy, we could simplify, cut out a few activities, regain balance.  If our only stress was a relationship issue, misbehaving children, or an irritating in-law, we work through those concerns one step at time, set some boundaries, some rules and continue on.
But what happens when we have no control over the situation in which we find ourselves?
A sick child, loss of job, loss of income, foreclosure, divorce, terminal illness, death of a loved one.  The list goes on of those circumstances we have no control over.

This morning I read from Psalm 77:1-4  the Message:
"I yell out to my God, I yell with all my might, I yell at the top of my lungs.  He listens.
I found myself in trouble and went looking for my Lord;  my life was an open wound that wouldn't heal.
When friends said, 'Everything will turn out all right.'  I didn't believe a word they said. 
I remember God-and shake my head.  I bow my head-and wring my hands.
I'm awake all night-not a wink of sleep. 
I can't even say what's bothering me.
I go over the days one by one.
I ponder the years gone by.
I strum my lute all through the night, wondering how to get my life together."

WOW! Can you relate to that?  I sure can...those troubling times when life feels like an open wound that will never heal.  Each day just brings more anxiety, fear and wonder about where is God when you need Him!!

How do we understand this?  Who can help us?  If it's God, then where is He?

vs. 7-10
Will the Lord walk off and leave us for good?  Will He never smile again?  Is His love worn threadbare?
Has God forgotten His manners?  Has He angrily stalked off and left us?
'Just my luck', I said.  'The High God goes out of business just the moment I need Him."

What do you think?  Is God out of business?  Or too busy helping someone else that He has forgotten you?

I don't have a clear answer on this, and I've been in that place of wondering myself.  But what I do know, as I look back is that God has ALWAYS come through. Not in ways I planned, I might add.  I've learned some lessons along the way.  He doesn't usually just come to the rescue and deliver the answers I've needed, certainly not as I expected.
I've had to search and stretch myself to find those answers in Him.  Pride has been kicked to the curb as I visited the food pantry when there was no money for groceries.  Sins admitted and confessed to others as the healing began after divorce.  The willingness to give it ALL to God, even if it meant losing my house and living in a cardboard box.
God's ways aren't always easy, but He does refine us along the way.
The longer I walk as a believer, the more I can look back and see His faithfulness.  Exactly what the Psalmist says and here lies our confidence:
vs.11-15 "Once again I'll go over what God has done, lay out on the table the ancient wonders.
I'll ponder all the things you've accomplished, and give a long, loving look at your acts.
O God! Your way is holy! No god is great like God!
You're the God who makes things happen; you showed everyone what you can do-
You pulled your people out of the worst kind of trouble, rescued the children of Jacob and Joseph."

And He will rescue you as well.  He's done it in ancient times.  He rescued last week, last month, last year, and yes, He will rescue us again.

Keep on praying, praising, and making your requests known.  You can count on Him to be faithful, in ways you may have never dreamed.

Be Kind-Rewind

BE KIND-REWIND:Remember that old phrase?  It's seems antiquated, doesn't it?  It was only a few short years ago when that phrase was posted on videos we picked up at the video store.  The idea was to kindly rewind the tape prior to returning so the store or the next customer to rent the video didn't have to do it.
Today we have CD's, DVD's-DVR's and the video tape is a thing of the past.
It seems to me that we should re-work that phrase and use it once again in our lives.
REWIND-BE KIND is the perfect makeover for the old saying.
Too often we react unkindly to others.  Harsh words, nasty thoughts, dirty looks are all ways that we show dislike or contempt towards another person.
Instead of re-acting, I think we should re-wind.  In other words, rewind those negative thoughts, harsh words before they come out of our mouths.  Once rewound, think of a better way to respond.  A little kindness goes a long, long way.
Remember, someone may need to rewind for you too.
Colossians 3:12 "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience."

Lesson from "The Girls" ;o)

For my well endowed friends, this post may come as no surprise.  But for my friends who, like me, struggle to decide if I'm an A, B, or maybe a C cup is my size,  this post might amaze you!
Last week at Yeta's ( the retail store for fuller figured women in Holland where I work)  I learned something new.  Actually, I learned something new and then witnessed what I learned ALL in one day.  God uses the craziest things as teaching tools!!
First, a woman, rather busty, I might add was trying a dress on.  Her complaint was that the 'girls' just didn't fit right.  Yeta suggested that she bend forward and shake, thus the 'girls' fell right into place.   Now, being smaller than I'd like to be, I was AMAZED!
Then, later that day, I had the privilege of working with another 'FULL' figured woman who was putting on a special bra prior to trying on a beautiful special occassion dress.  You know, it is important to have the right undergarments, regardless of our size. ;o)
Anyway, I did all the hooks and eyes on the back of said undergarment and what did she immediately do?
She bent forward and SHOOK those girls until they landed properly!!
My jaw dropped!  I'd witnessed this miracle twice in one day!  And I was jealous!!
Now, what does this have to do with anything?
I got to thinking how often God has had to shake me up to put me in my place, my perfect place in Him.
Often, I get so dragged down and want to just do my own thing.  But eventually, I realize that without His support, life just sags.
Today, if you find yourself in a place of being shaken or you're feeling droopy, ask yourself what it is that you need to be lifted out of and rest in the support that only God can give.
"...Your love, O Lord, supported me." Psalm 93:18b

How Clear is Your Vision?

There comes a day when most of us succumb to reading glasses.  Oh, you may be young and chuckling, but, trust me, the day will come.
It's hard to believe when it happens, but thankfully there are some very cool readers out there so at least we can look good!
Last year I decided to get glasses, progressive lenses they're called.  It's a fancy name for bifocals with no lines.(Like my grandpa's)  |
I was tired of always having to put those darn readers on and off, on and off, so these 'progressive' glasses seemed a good alternative.
When I picked them up the optician told me that they may take some adjustment.  You see, he said, when you look straight ahead, you will see very clearly.  Looking straight down your reading will be clear too.
However, if you glance off to the side, your vision will lose its clarity, so as much as possible, look straight at whatever you are viewing.
That got me thinking...The Bible talks about "look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you." Proverbs
4:25.
What are we looking at?  Hebrews 12:2 says, "let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith"
We easily get sidetracked by our circumstances, the wants and needs of others, and our own selfish desires.
How often do we focus on our wants, our problems, our wants and needs?
Instead of answers, we only find fuzziness and lack of clarity.
When we look straight ahead again, focusing on Jesus, our vision clears and we see again the direction we need to go.
What's fuzzy in your life?
Where do you lack clarity?
I encourage you to identify that area, put on your glasses and look straight ahead to Jesus for a clear vision.
Just like my new "Progressive" lenses, He will make everything clear.

I'm a do-er by nature.  You know, Hey Diane, can you ____________(fill in the blank)?  Sure, I can!
You need some walls painted?  I can do it.
You need a Bible study leader?  I can do it.
You need what?  When?  Of course, I can handle that!
OR CAN I?
Are you a do-er like me?  Of course, I can say no, but too often the things I do are things I love and know that I'm reasonably good at, so why not? 
That's where I find myself today...not over committed yet, but on the verge of it.  So many possibilities looking at me right now and all of them are good.  BUT, are they the BEST?
As a sit and ask God for wisdom regarding all of these choices, I hear Him say 'wait on Me for direction'
In other words, it's time to BE quiet, listen and wait for His BEST.
God is asking me to be a BE-er instead of a do-er for awhile longer.
His best is always worth waiting for.
If you find yourself ready to jump into the next 'good' thing that comes along, I encourage you to BE quiet, listen and wait for God to show you His BEST.
Is He asking you to be a be-er or a do-er? Never settle for good when you can have His BEST!!

Let Freedom Reign

Fireworks, family, picnics, and parades....it all makes for a great celebration.  The 4th of July.  Independence Day! 
Freedom, sweet freedom.  Simple question for you.  Are you free?
Oh, I don't mean as in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  I mean really free?
We all have areas in our life where we are held captive, don't we?  An addiction, a bad habit, a bad relationship, even negative thoughts can hold us captive.
For many years I fought with negative emotions regarding myself.  Never feeling smart enough, pretty enough, thin enough, just never enough.
I have come to realize that I will never be enough...not in and of myself that is.
Some of you may know I have a tattoo on my foot with Psalm 73: 25,26 on it.
This decision came after I went through divorce and loneliness and searching for worth.
God broke through and I finally understood...He alone is enough.
Enough to fill every empty hole in my heart.
Enough to heal every emotional wound.
I hope you will give Him your place of captivity and ask Him to free you too.
May this year truly be your Independence Day!
"Whom have I in heaven buy You?  There is no one on earth I desire besides You.
My heart and my flesh they fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
Psalm 73:25,26

FLABBY FAITH

There's something that's happening to my body is I get older.  I'm getting 'softer'.  Some may call it flabby, or fluffy,or cushiony,  but I prefer 'softer'. 
Now that I'm working in a women's clothing store, I hear this from many women.  One particular comment stands out..."Oh no dear, not sleeveless.  I don't want my arms to show!"
The conversation continues about how time and gravity make changes, how we should at least be lifting soup cans to build up some muscle and develop tone again.
We know that daily exercise, over time, develops those muscles resulting in less flabbiness and more strength and tone.
To strengthen and tone our flabby arms, we need to exercise them.  In the same way, I think we need to exercise our faith.

But how do we exercise our faith?  Lifting soup cans isn't the answer!
Hebrews 11 says that "faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."
In other words, faith sees the promises of God coming true before they happen.
So, 1st...we must exercise our knowledge of God's Word-His promises, by spending time reading and studying it.
2nd...we must exercise our prayer life, by praying and believing that what God has promised He will be faithful to deliver.
The 3rd and hardest part of training our faith muscle is believing without seeing answers.
That's when we exercise our minds by remembering God's faithfulness in the past and trust that He will be faithful again, regardless of what circumstances may look like.
We all need to challenge ourselves to exercise our physical bodies, but let's challenge ourselves to flex our faith muscles too.
By spending time in His Word, in prayer and reminding ourselves of His faithfulness, we will soon see the results and enjoy the benefits of a peaceful mind, a strong spirit and hope for the future.
